Conferences Placenta Accreta Spectrum Workshop

May 31 and June 1 2024

About the Workshop

This 2-Day course is designed to provide interactive in-depth skills and knowledge about Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) to healthcare teams: sonographers, nurses, and physicians who care for pregnant patients and may encounter PAS.

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Screen patients for risk factors for PAS
  2. Improve antenatal screening for and recognition of PAS
  3. Counsel patients and families about PAS
  4. Develop and refine referral processes for antenatally detected or suspected PAS
  5. Utilize simulation tools and scenarios to prepare your units for PAS
  6. Practice what to do if and prepare for when PAS is first recognized at delivery, or for the unexpected 'drop in' patient

The first day will be dedicated to interactive didactic sessions about what's new in PAS care, the patient perspective, and multidisciplinary expert panel discussions.

On day two, we will provide 3 interactive simulation scenarios designed to work on ultrasound skills, surgical skills, and team-based management and emergency response skills.

We invite teams to bring and share simulation scenarios with one another!

This conference is sponsored by a generous donation from the Dale Brown Endowed Fund.

"I was so honored to pain this piece for Dr. Sarah Detlefs depicting her and her father doing surgery together. He is a reitred critical care/trauma surgeon and during her residency, she had the opportunity to train under him. This really touched my heart since my dad was also a physician and was a huge influence in the pathway of my life." Anna Carley

Dr. Einerson performs a multitude of testing options and procedures in pregnancy including ultrasounds of the fetus and placenta starting in the first trimester, genetic screening, amniocentesis (collecting amniotic fluid) for genetic diagnosis, cerclage and other treatments to prevent preterm birth, vaginal birth, cesarean birth, vaginal delivery of complex situations (like twins and breech-presenting babies), external cephalic version (turning a breech or transverse baby to head-down) and treatments for placenta accreta spectrum including cesarean hysterectomy or conservative management.

Research and Academic Background

Dr. Einerson is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) at the University of Utah.

Dr. Einerson’s research focuses on placenta accreta spectrum, severe maternal morbidity, quality improvement and patient safety, obstetric and postpartum hemorrhage, and cost-effectiveness. He has ongoing funding from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD, K23HD106009) to study alternative treatments for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). He was the recipient of a career develop award through the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Units (MFMU) Network to study the cost of care in patients undergoing induction of labor or expectant management at term in the ARRIVE trial. His research is supported by the University of Utah Vice President’s Clinical & Translational (VPCAT) Research Scholars Program and the Utah OBGYN Research Network (OGRN). His peer reviewed research has been published in Obstetrics & Gynecology, The American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AJOG), the British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (BJOG), and BMJ Open. In 2020, he received the Roy M.
